Native Student Group at Northwestern Demands Recognition
A student group at Northwestern University, in Evanston, Illinois, is petitioning school officials to start a Native American Studies program and recognize the violent history of John Evans, one of the university’s founders.
We really do need a Native American Studies program, though. It is painfully obvious how lacking we are of it - and it wouldn’t hurt to add more to the other ethnic studies programs, too. (Like non ad-hoc majors for Asian American Studies and Latino/Latina Studies.)
Also, like, I don’t know, maybe an ethnic studies distribution requirement instead of generic “ethics and values”.
